If you want a big bang for your fashion buck, splurge on some new accessories this season. You can get a fresh new look with many of your old wardrobe pieces, just by adding some trendy new shoes or a hot new handbag. Here’s a quick guide to what’s in style for Winter 2009 and 2010.

Shoe Trends for Winter 2009/2010

In previous years, the runways were full of shoes with odd shapes, strange colors and huge design elements. In a complete 180, this season, the shoes are more understated and sleek. If you want to stay on trend with your shoes, make sure that they are timeless designs – classic pumps, plain boots or contemporary loafers. Think updated styles of what women used to wear in the 1940s and 1950s.

Everything goes when it comes to toe shapes. We’re seeing anything from very pointy to square toe to rounded toe. Boots are hot, too. This season, the super hot trends for boots are ankle-boots and over-the-knee boots.

The colors you’ll find this season are black, near-black, navy blue, dark green and dark violet. Cognac (a burgundy brown) and asphalt (a dark grey) are the on-trend colors for this season. In addition, you’ll find lots of light neutral colors and leather tones to offset the darkness.

Handbag Trends for Winter 2009/2010

In contrast to the understated and dark shoe trends of this winter, handbags are bold and beautiful. The top designers have all been showcasing handbags that have sparkle, pizzazz and lots of embellishments.

Nearly every size of handbag is available this season. Clutches, small bags, hobo bags and totes are all available in these flashy styles.

Some of the most interesting features this season come from a rock influence. Chains and studs are being used in new and exciting ways. Chains are used in chained straps and there are studs and rivets being used on pockets and as extra details on purses.

Another big trend, if you’re not into the whole metal thing, is blended fabrics and colors. You can find purses that use contrasts of suede and leather, dark and light colors and different patterns. These designs go great with an understated outfit that has solid colors.

Size wise, the trend toward big is still going strong in handbags. Although clutches and smaller bags can still be found, in order to stay on trend you should get a large tote. This is good news for those of you who like to carry a lot of things with them.

You really can keep your wardrobe fresh this season by investing in just a few new accessories. You’ll stay fashionable without breaking the bank.

Farming practices used before the 1900’s are classed as organic. It was only after this that added chemicals such as urea and DDT were brought into farming – previous to this, farmers didn’t have the knowledge and simply put, were happy enough with things as they were; as most of us today would be. After all, home grown food is often the nicest, most tasty food we put on our plates.

For some reason, during the 1960’s and 1970’s the concept of organic food became a separate entity to the ‘normal’ food we were then buying. Consumers had been effectively duped into believing that what they were buying, was food as nature intended, it not appreciating that the chemicals which were added during growth of the ‘normal stuff’ were what actually made the food abnormal in the first place.

Rachel Carson, a prominent writer, biologist and ecologist established public awareness of these issues via ‘Silent Spring’, a book she wrote which basically brought about major controversy on the use of agricultural chemicals and synthetic pesticides in particular. As a direct result of this book, and the growing concern over the use of farm chemicals which consumers were suddenly more aware of, chemical regulation procedures were put into place, and when the demand for organically grown food rose, so did the need for further regulatory procedures to cut down on the ecologically destructive and toxic chemicals.

Today, organic food is finally reaching an all time high of acceptance from consumers, so its demand is increasing – more ‘organically acceptable’ agricultural procedures are gaining momentum, and it seems even though it is more expensive than chemically treated foodstuffs, it is healthier, and it is that health factor which is winning the battle against chemically treated consumables.

A creation of a whole new set of ideas about organic standards which first came into debate in 1990, took over ten years to refine to relative perfection, and they will still evolve as new practices come into force. It is by these standards now that, organic food and other products such as wool in the USA is grown/gathered.

All of this though begs the questions – why can’t farmers just grow food without chemicals at all, why does it need regulation, and why were chemicals introduced into grown food and other consumables in the first place; I think you already know the answer though, and that’s money.

In this modern technological age where farmers are in direct competition between each other to gain the bigger contracts of the supermarkets and other food retailers, they have to be cheap. They simply can’t grow the vegetables (for example) as fast as the grocery store can sell them, so they have to resort to other methods to keep up, or did do at least until the consumers voice began to ring out strong and true.

Organic food is no longer a small niche in the food desires of Americans; it is becoming what everyone wants. Everyone now wants and feels the need to eat in a more healthy fashion with the onset of so many new medical conditions which prove costly as it is; a little more expense to eat something grown without strong use of chemicals (which could ‘theoretically’ make it worse) might mean a saving health-wise instead.

The organic food trend of today is growing ever-stronger, and not just for vegetables even though at one point organic purchases totalled over 40% of all organic buys. Meat and fish which is organically produced is still at the lowest of all food purchases, but is moving up the chain too. Dairy, bread and grain, beverages and snacks are all becoming more and more popular.

Today there are more Organic supermarkets popping up everywhere, sometimes in certain areas more than others – almost as though people in one state are more ‘organic’ than others but on the whole it is more of a blanket change than just a few people trying to eat in a healthier way, the amount of people eating organically is far more substantial than most realize. Suddenly people have more choice, and this is obviously because the demand is there. The world is finally going organic, and with any luck the bigger grocery store chains will have to meet this demand, rather than flood the market with low-cost chemically treated alternatives.

A new season, new trends and – of course – new hairstyles.

Fashion Week put the spotlight on the some great looks for the new season, with super-long lengths and pixie-style bobs leading the runway. Look forward to layers, razor cut bobs, and blunt bangs to freshen up for the season.

“Short hair is the biggest trend of the new cold season” – many have said that short haircuts are both convent and empowering to women.

Plus if you’re trying to look younger, short hairstyles will help you achieve your goal.

You can create new looks with texturizing your bangs, maybe you want them straight across, or side sweeping them. You can also play up the style with layers to make other areas of your face either stand out, or minimize them.

Blunt bangs are especially flattering for round and square face shapes, and can help balance out high cheekbones. Go for blunt bangs cut just over the eyebrow level for a modern, sophisticated look. These can easily be swept to the side if you decide to change up the style at a moment’s notice.

Medium hairstyles offer comfortable hair length that is not too long and not too short.

From letting it flow down, bunning it up, to curling up the ends, mid-length hairstyles offer a variety of beautiful hairdos.

If you’re looking to try a new haircut, (or to go a bit shorter) the bob is (still!) a hot hairstyle. Even those who choose to keep their waves and curls will opt for more controlled and cleanly-defined tresses.

As long as you love it!

Yes, long hair remains in top. Stick straight, or curly. With blunt or peek-a-boo bangs, it doesn’t matter as long as it’s… long!

Furthermore long hair seems to make a comeback with really nice natural wave with a little bit of volume to it, so the hair is very light, very understated, nothing too over-the-top-just kind of sexy, but controlled and nice and light.

You’re tresses should have lots of natural texture, flirtatious flips and long loose layers whether your hairstyle is straight, wavy or curly.

Still very classic, but also beautiful, are the chignons and ponytails on long or medium long tresses.

Home decor trends for 2010 can be just those small touches you put into your home if you don’t want to go with the entire trend. The benefit is that you never have to be chasing a trend and can still appear to be in the know. Check out these new trends in decorating to see what you can implement easily.

1.) Being flashy is still out in 2010. Now that cheap credit has come and gone, finding items to decorate or repurpose from a thrift store or yard sale is now very cool. If you can find affordable items that need just a bit of TLC, now you can be part of the shabby chic trend that has evolved. It no longer needs to look like the old shabby chic style, but more like you have collected items passed on to you from your grandmother. Vintage is in!

2.) Its easy being green. Green products and living green are the new in thing. With green products and green activities on the fore fronts of every one’s mind, you can save money, help the environment and feel good about doing it. With the proliferation of green items in the market place and by recycling old items, doing something good for the planet has never been so easy!

3.) If luxury is still to be had by some of you, it will be had at home. Many homeowners are looking for fix-ups that are luxurious without breaking the bank. Now is the time to invest in that fancy shower head or splurge on the whirlpool tub. You can have your own spa retreat in your home. While you’re at it, glass tiles and light colors in the bathroom are the next big thing!

4.) Softer and neutral colors comfort us in 2010. We have made it through a rough patch and now we need some comforting. That’s where the color trend is coming in. Think pastels, but not like those from the 80s. Grays mixed with oranges, greens and violets is where it’s at.

5.) So soft and comfy. That will be the trend in fabrics. If it’s chenille or velvet, you’re likely to see it in a big way. Remember, we want to be comforted and these softer fabrics are the best west for us to feel cozy and comfortable.

Just remember, as with all trends, don’t go hog wild. You may end up with a home that looks like the Golden Girls were your design consultants if you’re not careful!

I spend lot of time in front of my computer, typing the documents, using my keyboard, dragging and dropping the data using the mouse. I use all the usual office programs to write documents, create presentations, and also browse the web, check my mail and so on. Work is stressful! I spend lots of time typing and clicking.

That’s when I began to have neck, back, and wrist strain along with all types of stiffness. I started research on these issues; finally I found that my work setup was causing me bodily harm. Then I started searching for the ergonomic work setup. I started finding information for ergonomic products. Finally I made the switch to ergonomic products for my office. This switch to ergonomics workspace has reduced my strain and pain.

I am going to give a review on my new ergonomic keyboard; the thumb rule for a good ergonomic keyboard is that it shouldn’t allow your elbows to come very close. You will find this type of keyboard in Laptops. You may notice the curvature, which is more ergonomic. If your keyboard is a rectangle shape, then it is not an ergonomic keyboard because human fingers vary in length on both hands.

These curved keyboards are very easy to use, because the keys are not laid in grid pattern. If you want to purchase one, select one that is suitable to you. A true ergonomic keyboard layout is suitable to all. You can easily press the keys without getting the common repetitive stresses.

Now, I’m going to provide the information about specific keyboard I use, after much research and personal recommendations from professional ergonomists. The name of the ergonomic keyboard is SC2.0 Goldtouch Ergonomic Smart Card Keyboard. This awesome ergonomic peripheral contains smart card technology, like Star Trek type stuff! You can easily adjust it to suit your needs. It is user friendly, and very comfortable to use. This particular ergonomic keyboard provides the two levels protection necessary to be suitable on my desk. I highly recommend you look at saving your wrists and elbows by putting one of these on your desk!

If you’re looking for an inexpensive yet distinctive way to update your home this year, how about starting with your light fixtures? New light fixtures can change the whole look and mood of a room, and are a relatively inexpensive way to update your home. Here are some of the new trends for 2009 that you might want to consider for your own home.

Hidden cable track lighting. The newest type of cable track lighting features hidden cables that use a very low voltage. The cable is virtually invisible, causing the lighting fixtures to appear as if they are floating. This is a great look for non functional lighting in a living or dining room, and can soften the room with specialty light bulbs.

Chandeliers in unexpected rooms. We all have seen the traditional chandeliers in dining rooms, but how about one in your bedroom or even the bathroom? Smaller-sized fixtures are the newest trend in bathroom and bedroom décor, simply hang one in the middle of the room and you have an instant update.

Retro fixtures. Retro fixtures are the newest style for homes. Pair stark black and white retro fixtures that reflect strongly of the ’60s with brightly painted walls to bring your home into 2009. Art deco is huge this year, and light fixtures that echo those clean lines are more popular than ever. Look for specialty light bulbs that soften the art deco look.

For more information on styles and trends for 2009, visit a lighting showroom near you to see the newest style for yourself. Then give your home an inexpensive facelift!

Bulb Direct (http://bulbdirect.com/) sells specialty light bulbs. Billings Farnsworth is a freelance writer.

A recent survey conducted by ExecutiveBrief, an online technology periodical, of 500 software development professionals and senior industry executives found increased optimism regarding the market in 2010 with rising budgets and more hiring.

The overriding theme of the survey was that companies are looking to spend more on software development this year and increase hiring rates compared to 2009. Furthermore, fewer companies cited cost reduction or expense management as concerns in 2010, a significant finding that supports the notion that the recession has come and passed.

Of the respondents, 77 percent stated their budget for software will increase during 2010, with 36 percent predicting a rise of at least 10 percent over 2009’s budget. Conversely, a mere 8 percent felt their development budgets would decline, an improvement upon 2009’s 10 percent. Further optimism was shown in the 53 percent of respondents that foresaw increased hiring at their company, a 25 percent increase from 2009.

Reducing operational cost and expenses was the most important priority for respondents, as nearly 33 percent cited the potential issue, which has actually decreased a great deal from 2009, when 51 percent found this area problematic. By adding more staff, software companies can increase their development activity and thus, worry less about heightened costs a smaller team would produce. Respondents were most interested in new product and application support, as 86 percent found these areas to be a top priority during 2010 – a jump of 70 percent from the previous year.

For methodologies, agile adoption has continued to gain ground, with more than one-half of the survey’s respondents preferred the method. In 2009, 42 percent was utilizing the method over other longer development cycles.

“The 2010 survey was surprising in some respects with regard to its implied optimism,” said Mary Brandon, vice president of marketing at SoftServe. “Survey findings of projected budget increases, increased hiring and reduced need for cost and expense reduction support indicate software development professionals are bullish on their immediate future. It’s something to watch as we begin the second half of 2010 and soon enter 2011.”

Many other reports have supported this optimism for the software development industry, as well as the IT industry in general. Recent research from global research marketing firm Gartner found worldwide IT spending is expected to increase by 3.9 percent, which businesses might indeed allocate toward the software development industry.

Jon Turk writes part-time for Software Development News and writes on software development and agile practices.
